Counter Culture Brewery and Grill
205 East 7th Ave, Denver

Project Description:
With this being Counter Culture's first brick-and-mortar, they were in need of a design direction and concept to help them settle into the brewery culture. The design intent was to create a timeless and inviting space for their patrons to relax.
We started with an open warehouse with concrete floors, 14' high corrugated metal ceilings, exposed trusses and HVAC system, and large windows and garage doors along the front two sides. The design challenge was creating a brewpub that's familiar with the seemingly standard brew pub vibe, but to create a refined and timeless design. We wanted to steer away from the ever-trendy reclaimed wood but still keep the warmth. Being on the corner of 7th and Sherman and in the up-and-coming restaurant stretch in the Governor's Park Neighborhood, we wanted to highlight the Brewery equipment and show off what Counter Culture will grow to be known for. We created a bench along the front two garage doors so patrons can cozy up along the open front garage doors and create a desired place to relax while filling the storefront. We also layered lighting throughout the space, so when at night it draws the passerby in and highlights the Brewery equipment. Upon entry, the long hallway offered a unique opportunity to bring in color and texture. This is where we will have a local artist make their staple with a large-scale mural and continue the wood with wood strips along the façade, adding not only a protective piece but also adding texture. From refined wood paneling to custom tables and casework, Counter Culture "shows Classic is the Contemporary" -Porchdrinking.com
